Rwanda Commemorates 15th Anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsi
President Kagame and Mrs Kagame at the Nyanza-Kicukiro memorial site during the ceremony to rebury with dignity victims of the genocide. 5000 people were forcibly taken to the site and murdered there on 11 April 1994.
President Kagame and Mrs Kagame led hundreds of Rwandans including government leaders and students to light thousands of candles that spelled out the message of hope at the commemoration vigil held at the Amahoro National Staduim on Tuesday evening. Video messages of support from world leaders and celebrities were played during the event in the fully-packed stadium.
